MESSAGE FROM ELMONT SUPERINTENDENT KENNETH ROSNER:
Dear Elmont Community,
I hope this letter finds you and your family healthy. This is my first correspondence as the new Superintendent of the Elmont UFSD, and I pledge to you to be informative and transparent throughout my tenure here in Elmont. What follows pertains to our re-entry plan for all our schools for September.
I have formed a Superintendent's Task Force and six school level subcommittees to examine and develop contingency plans for re-opening schools for the 2020-2021 school year. We are pleased to infom you that the Committee's work is well underway. However, there is still much to do as subcommittees examine various options and consider implications for each proposal. This is a complicated undertaking with many moving parts. The district is using various guidance documents from the federal, state, and local level that will assist us in our thinking and planning, as the goal must be to open safely for all children and staff members.
The Superintendent's Task Force and subcommittees are using the following four principles to ensure we are aligned with federal and state requirements for re-opening:
l . The health and safety of our students, teachers and staff
- Maximize in-school student learning experiences as allowable by state guidelines
- Distance and blended learning models will be designed to provide high quality, interactive learning experiences for students
- Provide proactive, clear communication to all families and staff
This is a new paradigm and I am confident our efforts will result in effective and viable solutions. We will work to critically examine options and our team will creatively devise an effective educational program given the possible constraints imposed by COVID19. We, as a district, thank the entire Elmont community for their patience and resilience during these challenging times.
Please continue to monitor the district website for the latest updates regarding the re-opening of schools. We will continue to provide updates-to the community as they become available.
