Jazz Masters Ensemble Performs in Elmont

Twenty-students in the District’s Jazz Masters Ensemble dazzled family members, administrators and community members with their musical abilities during an outstanding concert at Gotham Avenue School on April 11.

The Jazz Masters Ensemble, led by Gotham Avenue School music teacher Anthony Pino, is comprised of students from all six of the district’s schools – Alden Terrace, Clara H. Carlson, Covert Avenue, Dutch Broadway, Gotham Avenue and Stewart Manor. Mr. Pino not only directed the talented students during the performance, he also accompanied them on piano. Gotham Avenue Principal Marshall Zucker and music teachers Dara Lemite and Andrew Tilles also performed with the group.

The wonderful evening began with students playing the upbeat “Sesame Street Theme.” Other selections included “Sonny Moon for Two” and “Night Train.” During each song, the student-musicians performed solos on their respective instruments, which included flutes, alto saxophones, violins and others.
