Sensory Experiences at Stewart Manor

At the end of the summer, Stewart Manor School installed a sensory hallway in its building. With various colorful prompts, like stepping heel-to-toe, marching on ants, push-ups and hopscotch, the students are able to enjoy a sensory experience without leaving the school.

Principal Hope Kranidis said that the sensory hallway has been beneficial to students who need additional sensory experiences or a “brain break.” It has also been helpful to occupational therapy students.

Additionally, inside the classroom, students are given alternate seating arrangements, such as balance balls, bungee chairs, pillows or high-tops, to provide a comfortable, multisensory, learning experience.
