Gotham Avenue School’s Student Government, under the guidance of adviser Lindsey Bascetta and teacher Laura Ciquera, held a Carnations for Caring sale on Valentine’s Day. The sale was organized to raise funds for Well Aware, a charity that provides access to clean water for the people of Kenya by building wells. According to Ms. Bascetta, the students felt a deep connection with this cause and were committed to improving the living conditions of the people of Kenya. She indicated that the students were moved by the humanitarian crisis and the daily struggle it created for people. Ms. Bascetta and Ms. Ciquera are very proud of the students’ efforts.
The sale was held on Feb. 14, because the group thought it was the perfect day to demonstrate caring and spread love to the world. The sale raised $898 and the students will continue to fundraise to reach their goal of $1,000.
