Dear Elmont Families,
Happy New Year, and welcome back to school. We hope you enjoyed your time together as a family and we look forward to welcoming everyone back to school on Monday, January 3, 2022.
As we continue to deal with an uptick in COVID-19 cases on Long Island, we all must do our part to keep schools open. Everyone returning to school should assume that they have been in the same proximity as someone who is positive for COVID-19. If you participated in any sort of holiday gathering or travel, please exercise increased vigilance for signs or symptoms of illness.
Below are a few important reminders that will help us keep our students and staff safe and healthy at school.
All COVID-19 cases and exposures should be reported before the break ends; do not wait until Monday to report these cases.
Cases should no longer be reported to your school directly. All cases and exposures must now be reported to Perrotta Consulting at
covid19@elmontschools.org
or the hotline at
(516) 434-2031
.
All students, regardless of vaccination status, are required to stay home from school if they are experiencing any COVID-19 signs or symptoms of illness.
Please note, New York State DOH and Nassau County DOH have not adopted any changes to the current quarantine period. We will inform families if any changes are made to this guidance.
If your child is showing symptoms,
even if you think it might not be COVID-19,
or any member of your household becomes symptomatic or tests positive, please call Perrotta Consulting so they can let you know what steps are necessary for your child to return to school.
No student is permitted to be in the school building while the results of their COVID-19 test are pending.•
The NYSDOH requires a well-fitted mask when students are inside school buildings. Please make sure to send additional masks with your child should they need to change them during the school day. The schools do have extra masks if your child does need a new one.
We have been informed by the Governor’s office that school districts will be receiving self-testing kits for families of students in the coming days. Please note that there is
no requirement
to test to come back to school! These kits
will not
be sent home with students and are being made available to those families that want them. They will be made available for pick up at a location to be determined. We will provide additional information once we receive it.
In addition, if you are in need of testing, Nassau County has set up sites at Christopher Morley Park in Roslyn and at 1 Marcus Avenue in New Hyde Park. The link to register can be found at
http://www.northwell.edu/coronavirus-covid-19/pcr-testing
. You can also use the NYS link at
https://appointments.bioreference.com/nystatecovidtesting
.
Thank you for your cooperation and partnership in keeping our children and staff safe and healthy.
Sincerely,
Kenneth Rosner
Superintendent of Schools
