Stewart Manor School Students’ Talents on Display in 71st Winter Show

Stewart Manor School proudly carried on its 71-year legacy of presenting a joyful winter performance, highlighting the talents of scholars in the band, chorus, orchestra and Sixth Grade Drama Club, on Dec. 18 and 19.
The show opened with the lively intermediate orchestra, led by music teacher William Duerr, performing “Jolly Old Saint Nicholas” and “Sleigh Ride in the Park.”
As the lights dimmed, the spotlight shifted to the stage for the much-anticipated Sixth Grade Drama Club presentation of “Crafting Kindness.” Drawing inspiration from the popular building and crafting game Minecraft, the play followed a quest centered on restoring holiday spirit through acts of kindness and friendship. Key themes included helping others, avoiding judgments and treating friends with compassion. The play was written and directed by special education teacher Christina DeCastro and District Clerk Nicole Termini. Due to her new role in the district, Drama Club students presented Ms. Termini with a framed copy of the Playbill with signatures from the entire cast as a thank you.
Under the direction of Mr. Duerr, the intermediate band performed afterward, treating audiences to “Up on the Housetop” and “Gingerbread Men on Parade.” The concert wrapped up with performances by the chorus of scholars in grades 4-6, who sang “Here Comes the Snow” and “I’m Still Standing,” under the guidance of Aidan Timko.
For three months leading up to the performances, participating students dedicated considerable time to practice. This annual celebration gives students the chance to demonstrate their hard work and artistic growth, whether by perfecting musical pieces or confidently expressing themselves on stage.
The tradition was originally introduced by beloved teacher Gerry Georgi, who passed away in 2024, making the event especially meaningful.
