Dutch Broadway School Hosts Annual Kindness Week

To promote kindness and positive school citizenship, Dutch Broadway School hosted its annual Kindness Week from Feb. 2-6. This meaningful celebration is primarily student-led, with members of the Student Council taking the lead in planning and organizing the week’s activities.
Each year, Student Council students collaborate to create the daily themes and activities that encourage respect and connection. This year’s themes included Mindfulness Monday, where students were encouraged to “wear a smile” and dress in a smile-friendly outfit; Twist It Up Tuesday, which focused on how “different perspectives deserve equal respect,” as students dressed as their teachers and teachers dressed as students; Wild West Wednesday, invited students to “tip their hat and say hello and thank you” while dressing as cowboys or cowgirls to promote polite behavior; Twilight Thursday, centered on the message, “let small acts of kindness be your light,” with students wearing purple, navy or stars to represent the evening sky; and Friendship Friday, celebrated the idea that “friendship thrives on kindness” as students twinned with a friend.
Kindness Week kicked off with a schoolwide assembly on Monday morning, where students were greeted by the school mascot, Roary the Lion. Members of the Student Council, alongside Roary, performed a skit demonstrating how sharing and helping others are simple but powerful acts of kindness.
