Stewart Manor School Holds Monthlong PARP Celebration

Throughout March, Stewart Manor School celebrated Pick a Reading Partner with a series of engaging activities designed to foster a love of reading and strengthen the connection between home and school. PARP, a New York State initiative, encourages reading as a shared family experience while helping students build stronger comprehension skills.
The program kicked off with a high-energy Brain Show assembly hosted by the PTA, where students put their knowledge to the test in a fun, game show-style competition spanning a variety of curriculum subjects. Families also joined in the excitement during a virtual pizza-making event with Interim Principal Robert Cavaliere and Assistant Principal Pamela Boyd, bringing the school community together over Zoom as participants learned how to create their own pizza pies at home.
The excitement around literacy continued on March 17 with a special Mystery Reader event. Among the guest readers were Superintendent of Schools Marlon Small, Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources and Administration Dr. Johane Ligondé, Director of Curriculum and Instruction Pamela Stamidis and Board President Tiffany Capers. Additional readers included Sewanhaka Central High School District’s Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Dr. Richard Faccio and Sewanhaka High School Assistant Principal Dr. Marc Isseks, reinforcing the strong connection between the elementary and central high school districts.
On March 26, buddy classes partnered for peer read-aloud activities, further encouraging collaboration and a shared appreciation for reading. Students and staff dressed as their favorite book characters, as well.
PARP concluded on March 27 and 28 with a book fair, giving students the opportunity to discover and purchase new favorite books to enjoy at home.
