Gotham Avenue School Launches Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration

Wearing one’s heart on their sleeve took new meaning at Gotham Avenue School. In recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month, held from Sept. 15-Oct. 15, Gotham began a series of celebrations designed to honor Hispanic and Latino cultures and the diverse backgrounds of its school community.
The festivities kicked off with a special “Wear Your Flag” Day, during which scholars and staff members proudly showcased their heritage through wearing the colors of their flag, traditional clothing or attire representing their cultures.
The celebration will continue throughout Hispanic Heritage Month with special classroom visits from “Mystery Readers,” known as Gotham’s Latin American Legends. These guest readers will share stories and experiences that help scholars learn more about the cultures, achievements and lasting contributions of the Hispanic and Latino community.
Through these activities, Gotham Avenue continues to foster an environment where cultural diversity is celebrated, stories are shared and students learn from one another's unique experiences.
