Dutch Broadway and Clara H. Carlson Students Shine in The Lion King Jr. with Plaza Theatrical

Audiences were transported to the Pride Lands on Oct. 15 as scholars from Dutch Broadway School and Clara H. Carlson School brought Disney's “The Lion King Jr.” to life during captivating performances at Elmont Public Library.
As part of the district's ongoing partnership with local theater company Plaza Theatrical, more than 100 fifth and sixth grade students participated in this year's production, taking on lead roles, supporting roles and chorus performances. Their hard work and dedication culminated in two shows: a daytime performance for fellow fifth and sixth grade students and an evening performance for families and community members.
The talented cast captivated audiences with their enthusiasm and stage presence, showcasing weeks of preparation. Through memorable musical numbers such as “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King,” “Hakuna Matata” and “He Lives in You,” students brought Simba’s inspiring journey of self-discovery and courage to life. Their confidence, poise and commitment to their roles shone throughout each performance, earning enthusiastic applause from audience members.
The production also provided students with valuable learning experiences beyond the classroom. Through acting, singing and collaboration, participants strengthened communication skills, built self-confidence and learned the importance of teamwork while working toward a common goal.
The Plaza Theatrical program will continue this school year with additional “The Lion King Jr.” performances featuring students from Alden Terrace, Covert Avenue, Gotham Avenue and Stewart Manor schools.
